Pass the Bomb · Party / Drinking Penalty Game

JAY Project's Pass the Bomb ticks down on a hidden 5-30 second random fuse with a countdown sound and (on mobile) haptic warning. Whoever is holding the bomb when it explodes takes the penalty — the perfect free party / drinking game.

💣 Great icebreaker for dinners, parties, dates, team offsites, or any small group.

Best Use Cases

🍻 Drinking penalty

"Loser takes a shot" — light penalties keep things moving. The built-in random penalty suggester serves up a different mission each round.

🎉 Icebreaker for new groups

Even with strangers, one round of Pass the Bomb melts the awkwardness. Make the loser introduce themselves or perform a quick mini-mission.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family dinners / couples

Light entertainment after a family meal or on a date — much more interactive than drawing lots.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is the timer really random?

Yes. Each round generates a fresh 5-30 second timer via crypto.getRandomValues, so no pattern can be predicted.

Q. How are penalties decided?

The game includes a random penalty suggester and presets suitable for drinking or party settings. You can also pre-load your own penalty list.

Q. How many people can play?

Anywhere from 2 upward. 4-8 players is the sweet spot, but 10+ works fine.

Q. Will I get a warning before the bomb explodes?

Yes — 1-2 seconds before detonation a countdown sound and (on mobile) haptic vibration kick in. The exact moment still surprises you.

Q. How is this different from a ladder game?

Ladders pre-determine the outcome the moment they're drawn. Pass the Bomb plays out over real time, with constant interaction — far better for drinking or party energy.

Q. Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page is loaded, everything runs in your browser; the game continues if the network drops.
