With spaces counts every whitespace as 1. Without spaces is pure characters. Application essays usually use the with-spaces count.
Q. How many bytes per character?
ASCII = 1 byte, UTF-8 Korean / Japanese / emoji = 3-4 bytes. The counter shows UTF-8 byte length.
Q. How is page count calculated?
Based on 200-character pages: total chars ÷ 200 = pages. 1000 chars = 5 pages.
Q. What's the Twitter limit?
280 characters per tweet (Korean: 140 equivalent). The counter highlights when you cross the limit.
Q. How is "word count" defined?
Tokens separated by whitespace. "Hello world" = 2 words.
